Humaid Al Qatami
Chairman of the Board
Director General of the Dubai Health authority
It is a great honor for me to announce the second Geriatrics Summit to be held in Dubai on the 2-3 of November 2017 under the auspices of the Dubai Health Authority in partnership with the Swiss Business Council Dubai & Northern Emirates.
I will therefore, take this opportunity of thanking the DHA and especially Dr. Manal Al Taryam and Dr. Amal Al Jaziri, for their great help in making this event a reality.
The Dubai Health Authority and the Swiss Business Council realizes that the world as a whole and the UAE is facing difficulties in providing the correct care for older people. More than half the adults over the age of 65 have 3 or more medical problems, such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, dermatology, osteoporosis, obesity, kidney disease, prostate enlargement, eye diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, or high blood pressure and that is just to name a few.
Geriatrics has become an issue which is being seriously addressed in this country, especially as the average age of the local population is increasing rapidly. This new phenomenon will create unforeseen and different problems with families and medical facilities in the UAE and I am sure that this summit will address many of those crucial predicaments.
We have been tackling geriatrics for a long time in Switzerland and we think that our experience will be very useful to solve some of the complications faced by the UAE.
I would like to thank our Ambassador H.E. Maya Tissafi, our Consul General H.E. Chris Watts, the Director-General of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) the Former Minister of Health H.E. Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, the Swiss Business Hub and Switzerland Tourism for their valuable support.
Finally, I would like to thank Prof. Jean-Pierre Michel and Rahja Daher, our coordinator who worked tirelessly to organize an excellent event, programme and a list of highly qualified international speakers.
